Description

Oristel is a humble land of magic and gods. It now finds itself at war between the Gold Queen and the Indigo King. The war has begun ravishing the land, taking away the homes of many and changing the lives of all.

Heroes Abound Volume 1 consists of two novellas and two short stories, each within the land of Oristel.

The Onion Knight

Ollie dreams of being a hero and a knight for the queen. When Ollie and his best friend, Mamrie discover an abnormal blight on the crops of the village, he learns that the war has somehow found its way to his home. As the blight spreads, the people are inflicted with a strange rash that blooms flowers from their skin, producing unexpected effects. Mamrie’s aunt, the only family she has, abruptly goes missing and both kids find themselves in a race against time to find the answers. Ollie discovers a strange enemy beyond his imagination and he wonders if he can truly be the hero his village needs him to be.

One Ryte

Coloon is the youngest person to be bestowed the Ryte. Blessed with the ability to visit the Gold Dragon, a deity amongst its followers, Coloon is allowed one question to ask the god. He sets out on a pilgrimage taking him to parts of Oristel, he never imagined he would have ever visited. With each step, he learns more and more about the world beyond his front door. But he is yet to figure out what will be the question he asks.

The Darknaut

The young Darknaut, Colvin, is unsure of his own powers and abilities. Chosen to be one of the elite warriors amongst his people, Colvin seeks to figure out who he is as a young warrior and a member of his people, the Dan-Riz. When his home atop the Gilm Mountains is attacked, Colvin finds himself displaced alongside his teacher, Voh Hedo, and a fellow Darknaut warrior, Ix. As they try to make their way home they stumble across a small village where tensions are high and a civil war threatens to break out. Lost and separated from his people, Colvin must quickly overcome his fears and anxieties to become the Darknaut everyone believes he can be. But danger is closer than any of them ever expected.

As It Was

A wandering god of dwindling renown, Ath walks through the Queen’s capital, wholly present and completely unseen. Trekking along his aimless journey he stumbles across a grand and looming problem. It may be the source of all the upheaval in Oristel.
