Description
Town on Fire is a fictional collection of short stories mainly based around the 1990 coup event in Trinidad and Tobago. It explores the complexity of life for various individuals and speaks on themes such as culture, familial ties, man’s need for power and greed, abuse, rape, subjugation of women, flawed leadership in the name of God. migration-internal and external-, the psychological bond between leader and followers and much more. It draws from the authors experience of the coup and growing up on the Jamaat Al Muslimeen compound from childhood to teenager, as well as from other experiences and sources.
About the Author:
Otancia Noel is a Caribbean girl from Trinidad and Tobago. She grew up between the south and North Trinidad. She has a degree in Mass Communication and an MFA in Creative Writing Prose Fiction.
She is the author of Town on Fire: untold stories from a Caribbean Coup. She has been longlisted and shortlisted in international competitions such as Bridport UK and Alpine UK short story prize. Winner of Hachette and Hodder Education UK Island Voices Caribbean Contemporary Prize 2022 and Vincent Cooper Literary Prize USA 2021. Stories, articles, and scholarly articles featured in Solar Punk US magazine. The Caribbean Writer (TCW) Volume 36 US Virgin Island University.
