Description
Astronomy is one of the few sciences where amateurs can significantly contribute to research and discovery. It’s a captivating hobby that is not only rewarding and exciting but also fuels the imagination.
In recent years, a surge of new ‘smart’ equipment and gadgets has hit the market, promising ease of use, quick setup times, and near-instant imaging. This emerging area, known as Electronically Assisted Astronomy (EAA), offers beginners a wealth of tools but can also add to the already daunting array of astronomy equipment, accessories and computer software.
In this book, Bobby provides essential background information on astronomy and offers guidance on how to make the most of EAA. He outlines the general knowledge of both traditional and smart telescopes, helping readers choose the right tools for their specific interests. Additionally, he shares insights on how to transform existing traditional equipment into an automated setup using a Raspberry Pi, an affordable single-board computer.
Bobby Manoo is a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society and is Chair of the Flamsteed Astronomy Society based at the Royal Observatory, Greenwich, UK. He holds a BSc and MSc (First Class Hons) in Computer Science and works professionally as an IT Project Manager.
