  1. Lisa Henry

Reading The Unusual aloud with my children was a delightful experience from start to finish. The rhythmic repetition of the phrase “the unusual brings nonsensical things, and nonsensical things, the unusual brings” quickly became a chorus in our home, with my children excitedly joining in by the third round. It made for an engaging read-aloud that invited participation and laughter.

The whimsical scenarios—like pink grass or losing a shoe to the zoo—were just the right kind of silly to tickle their imaginations. These playful ideas opened up space for conversation long after we closed the book, as they eagerly shared their own “unusual” thoughts and dreamlike ideas.

The Unusual is a joyful, imaginative read that encourages creativity, giggles, and togetherness. Highly recommended for read-aloud moments that spark wonder.
