Welcome to Scribble It Publishing (SIP) where it is our mission to take local authors from manuscript to bookstores with the highest standards.
We are a full service publishing company in Trinidad and Tobago, offering not only the services of a traditional publishing house but also individualized services to support authors along their self-publishing journeys.
Our experience interacting and working with local authors through our bookstore, Scribbles and Quills Limited, has allowed us a unique vantage point when it comes to the struggle of getting a manuscript to the shelves.
We understand what it takes and we recognize the need for this transition to be made easier locally. Thus, Scribble It Publishing was born.
- Project Consultation
This is a mandatory consultation with our team / representative which will allow us to properly discern your goals and needs to execute your particular vision. The outcome: you get a plan of action for your book project. This consultation is perfect for a new/published author wishing to take their manuscript through all the process required to publish and reach bookstore shelves.
We will go through your ideas, plans and prepare a clear plan forward to achieving your goal of being a published author. Discussions include advice and guidance on content, illustrations, formatting, editing, printing, ISBNs, cover design, marketing and more.
- Editorial Assessment
- Developmental Editing
This will require (at least) another reading and review of the manuscript.
A developmental edit will present to you an overall summary (called an editorial report) of what is working and what’s not. Things like flat characters, plot holes, confusing scenes, not enough tension, and unclear character motivations are all things a developmental editor will look for. The editorial report will also mention what’s working well so you know what to keep.
You’ll also get an annotated manuscript back, which includes notes of the developmental edit, giving you a more detailed view of our suggestions listed in the report.
- Copy Editing
This will require (at least) another reading and review of the manuscript.
A copy edit (sometimes spelled copyedit) is all about getting the mechanics of your story right. In this instance, copy means the words on the page. So, a copy editor (or copyeditor) is down in the weeds, combing through the details to make sure your writing meets overall standards for correctness.
A copy editor isn’t concerned with stylistic choices; they’re looking for spelling, grammar, and punctuation mistakes.
But copy editors also do more. They look for proper capitalization, subject-verb agreement, dialogue tags, and consistency. Did you write one character’s name when you really meant another? A copy editor will catch it. Did you use one word when another one would work better? Leave it to a copy editor to suggest a more suitable word.
- Formatting
This will require (at least) another reading and review of the manuscript.
Formatting is how your manuscript looks and reads. Things like font size, page colour, word count, page number, line spacing, paragraph breaks–everything that goes into the visual appearance.
This is a necessary step since poor formatting, missing a page or having wrong page numbers severely affect the integrity of your work.
- Proofreading
This will require (at least) another reading and review of the manuscript.
A proofreading edit is often the last part of the editing process. It’s designed to make sure that no mistakes slip through before finally hitting publish. Like copy editors, proof-readers are looking at all the little things that make up a book. Each word, comma, period, page number, and even each space and scene break are all under a proof-reader’s purview.
A proof-reader will be able to point out inconsistent use of italics that may confuse a reader. They’ll also look at any captions, footnotes, and formatting errors. This is why it’s important to have your book formatted before sending it to a proof-reader. You can think of the proofreading process as the very last line of defense against those little things that may turn readers off.
SIP is confident that we can help you to make your manuscript ready for publication. We do hope that you decide to work with us.
