Alister and James journey to New Orleans searching for a witch named Melanie. Olivia, their driver, chauffers the boys around and helps them make the best of their stay in New Orleans while they wait for Melanie to craft them rings that would offer protection from even the influence of the Horsemen. While mourning the passing of their friend, the October boys enjoy a change of pace. Eventually, the boys split up, but Alister extends his stay after meeting a new love interest. While in London, James is approached by the youngest of Brij’s hunters in a bar, and the situation escalates. James escapes death but wounds up in a hospital guarded by police. When this news reaches Alister, he drops everything to go to his cousin. However, as he walks out his door, he finds the street ladened with corpses. When the hunters could not be reached, and a team of police officers massacred on Bourbon Street, Alister became the only person standing between the beast and the people of New Orleans.
