Unapologetically raw, honest, brave, soul- searching, and captivating are just a few suitable words that may sufficiently describe Joel W. Frederick’s poetry. However, upon delving deeper into this collection of poems, you may find that these words are grossly insufficient, and you may want to add your own positive adjectives as well; as this book is filled with a myriad of uncontrolled emotions. In this project, the author bares his soul on paper and thus you will find the heart of a man who is truly uncompromising on how he feels. From the very lustful heights of love to the deepest caverns of despair he takes you on a journey; a journey to where sometimes it may be smooth and other times you may just want to hold on for dear life. His style is not bold…and I am being modest here. What stands out are the messages he is trying to convey. They quietly scream at the reader to take notice. As erotic as the title is, so is the mind of the author; as he kisses and caresses every word until one is seduced by the passion in the strokes of his pen. Pieces like, ‘masterpiece’, ‘Unquestioned’, ‘An affair with chaos’, and ‘writing on the wall’ are just examples written in his own unparalleled style. His work is no doubt inspired from his life experiences mingled together with imagination and above all, love for what he does. The end result are pieces that the reader can relate to; simple and yet thought provoking. This project is intended to stimulate the readers mind as well as his soul; loudly…yet, delicately like a whisper. You will listen no doubt, and understandably, crave for more.
